Sons of Haze is a rock band from Rio de Janeiro, and they came up with a project to design the cover of their new album, Skirmish – which is a noun that means "a fight between small bodies of troops, especially advanced or outlying detachments of opposing armies." It tells much about the essence of Sons of Haze's album, which has a lot of war, blood and spiritual references in the lyrics. For this reason, we decided to make this cover about Aztec's Ancient civilization’s war with the Spanish.
The band wanted us to illustrate each one of the tracks, so we decided that the best way to display both the lyrics and the illustrations was to put the text in one side of the piece, and a big continuous illustration telling the story in the other.
You can read the cover in three moments:
First, when you get the album from a store shelf and see the main cover, with the title. There yourealize that the album tells a bloodly war story, with some spiritual references. In a second moment, you can walk through the lead character's journey, following each one of Sons of Haze's album tracks. In the third moment, you can see the whole illustration as a poster, and, by conecting the areas of light and shadow, realize that there is a big cat's silhouette hidden on the composition. In Aztec's belief, the Jaguar was like guide to the lost souls between heaven and earth, a fearless warrior and an important powerful creature for them. This silhouette shows the highs and lows in the life of the character, becoming stronger until the battle in the end.

In the back of the cover poster, the lyrics are displayed with two small illustations that pictures both sides of the hispanic war: the Spanish army and the Aztec empire.
